The older housing near downtown Bellefonte
The Victorian and early twentieth-century homes near the historic core of Bellefonte often have steep, complex roof lines with multiple valleys, dormers and chimneys, all of which are places a leak likes to start. Original masonry chimneys in particular tend to have counter-flashing that was mortared in decades ago and has since pulled away from age and settling, which is one of the most common repair calls we get in this part of town.

Gutters on these newer homes are usually in better shape structurally but clog just as fast from the mature street trees planted when the developments were built, which are now large enough to drop a heavy leaf load every autumn.

Bellefonte sits in the Bald Eagle Valley, and storm cells tend to track along the ridge line rather than spreading evenly, which means a hailstorm or a wind event can hit one side of town harder than the other. We inspect based on what we find on the roof rather than assuming a whole neighbourhood took the same damage, since two houses a few streets apart can come through the same storm very differently.
