Money Savers Construction is a roofing and exterior contractor working across State College and Centre County, from the boroughs east of town toward Bellefonte to the mountain corridor near Philipsburg. The work covers roof repair and replacement, storm damage assessment, gutters, siding and the smaller exterior repairs that keep a house's envelope tight. Curtis, our field lead, walks every roof and attic before a scope is written, because a quote based on a ground-level look misses more than it catches. Centre County sits in a limestone valley ringed by ridges, and the combination of Mount Nittany's wind funnel, heavy lake-effect snow bands off Lake Erie in a hard winter, and the freeze-thaw cycles that come with it puts specific stress on a roof that a generic checklist does not account for. Older homes near campus and in the boroughs tend to have low-slope sections and minimal attic ventilation, while the newer developments toward Boalsburg and Port Matilda have steeper architectural roofs that fail in different ways, usually from wind rather than age. How do you decide between repairing a roof and replacing it?
It comes down to three things: how old the shingles are, how much of the roof surface is actually affected, and what the decking underneath looks like once we are up there. A roof with widespread granule loss, several separate leaks, or soft decking in more than one spot is closer to the end of its life, and we say so plainly with photos to back it up.
Do you help with insurance claims after a storm?
Yes. After wind or hail we document every affected slope and elevation with dated photos, measure the area involved, and write it up in the same line-item style an adjuster expects. You file the claim; we make sure nothing gets missed at the inspection stage, and we can walk the roof with the adjuster if that helps.
How long does a roof replacement usually take?
Most single-family homes around State College are torn off, dried in and shingled in one to two working days once the material is on site. Steeper roofs, larger footprints, or decking that needs replacing add time, and we tell you that before the crew shows up rather than partway through the job.
What time of year is roofing work usually done here?
The bulk of the season runs from April through November, once overnight temperatures stay warm enough for the shingle seal strips to bond properly. Emergency repairs and temporary dry-ins happen year round, including through the winter, but a full replacement is scheduled around the weather rather than a fixed calendar date.
